When I put the body back on the frame of my 68 Malibu I just dropped it on, got the body bolts started, and torqued them on. Did I miss a step aligning the body or is it dummy proof? I put new body bushings in as well.

Measure from the frame to the pinchweld on each side . Should be even distance on both sides. That tells you the body is centered on the frame.

There are supposed to be alignment holes near the front body mount and in front of the rear tires. I did the same thing, just bolted it down. When I got to the front end the sheet metal was going one direction and the bumper wanted to be straight on the frame....not good.

I replaced mine with the body completely assembled & just bolted 'er in. Later, when I put the 3-point seat belts in the car I found that the body was shifted over towards the driver's side, i.e I could stick three fingers between the frame & the body on the left side, and could barely get two fingers in on the right side. When I was at the Midwest Chevelle Regional I went around checking all of the '68 & '69 cars I could get to, and guess what?? About 3/4 of the cars were just like mine, the rest were more centered, but only two were perfect. There were 2 survivor cars (please don't sue me for trademark infringement  ) one a '68 and one a '69, and both of them were off a little. My fenders and bumpers appear to be lined up OK, so I guess that there's enough slop in the mounts to get them aligned.

i measured mine from the pinch weld to the frame in several places on each side. and i found that it was 1/2 inches on pass side. and 1 1/2 inch on drivers side, before i removed the body from the frame. but also there was a partial replacement quarter on the pass side from a side lick( collision). so do i line it back up even? it is on a 70 ss
