I just cant figure this out, Im in the process of putting my 70 Chevelle back together and have a problem with the power steering, I install new lines and verified the correct location they go so those are right and when i filled the reservoir i had the car off the ground and turned the wheels back and forth many times to bleed it and work out all the air. But when I start the car the steering wheel just automatically spins to the lock, Im baffled! Any Ideas?

Is it possible to switch the hoses around? I don't know what else it could be. Have you run this same pump previously or is it new to you? Could something in the pump be regulating pressure incorrectly?

The high pressure line from the pump discharge fitting should connect to the gear port nearest the aluminum side cover. The low pressure line that connects to the spout on the pump reservoir should connect to the port that is nearest the gear input shaft.

the problem is ..the spool valve inside the sector is stuck/has trash in it.
probably stuck from sitting up. if you let it run long enough to heat the fluid up good, it may free itself.

Isn't it tough to impossible to get the lines connected wrong? I thought the thread sizes were different on the steering box ports?

If you are using the production type hoses it is impossible. But some people make up their own hoses. Some use AN fittings. Some mix and match power steering gears and pumps with metric fittings etc. So after 30+ years, any thing can happen.
I have heard of lack of power assist from crud in the system. I haven't heard of a self steer problem however.
