Hi Everyone,
Can somebody help me on installing a quarter panel? How do you weld it and what do I do when welding the sail part of the quarter panel to the roof? I have search on here, but couldn't find anything on this.

Thanks for any help,
Ethan Trowbridge

Eathen, on the sail panel area you will find an leaded joint where the roof and quarter panel welds together.use a propane torch and a paint stick , heat up the lead till its starts to fall off the panel and clean up residual with the stick. when you get all of the lead off you will find spot welds that need to be drilled out, but be carefull not to drill completely through into the brace. You will also have to dril out spot welds at the joint in the trunk filler panel, along the trunk gasket edge, tail light panel, outer wheel edge and inside the door edge.
After you get the old quarter panel off and test fit the new panel you will need to drill 3/8 - 5/16 holes i just the panel in the general locations of the old welds. If you need a reference take a look at my sig. good luck, Alan

Hi snowtrav,
Thank you very much. So when you drill the holes, you spot weld them in, right? At the sail part, do you put something over (like seam sealer) to make it smooth.

Thanks,

Ethan, Yes you spot weld. The seam in the sail panel can be leaded again which is what i did or you can use a reinforced body filler i believe that subject has come up so you will want to do a search about it for the details. Alan
