Finally got around to putting my new rims on. I'm very pleased (Thanks Xtreme!). Yes, I know they are '69 rims on a '68 but I've always been partial to the '69 SS rims. Now I need some opinions. I'm planning on painting the lower portion of the car black as pictured below (photoshopped).

The second picture is how it looks now.

My question is this, which will look better, the '68 SS stripe across the nose or the '69 SS stripe down the side? No this is not an SS and I'm not trying to fool anyone. It's just a clean Malibu and it's not for sale. I know in the end it's all about what "I" like. I just want some outside opinions. Thanks.

I like the yellow on the bottom. I think it makes the car look lower to the ground. Just my opinion.

I would go with the Black 68 Elco Stripes.

The SS wheels look's great! I say the first picture, with the black bottom looks better, because it makes the truck look lower and plus it looks more orginal! I would go with the stripes a long the side..

actually you can't see the rims that are behind the trim rings. ROFLMAO. i like the black along the bottom. many had that. i have did that before to disguise rust thru holes.

I like the black on the bottom. I think it makes the car look lower, and more muscle.

The rims are nice.

I wouldn't do either stripe with the black one the bottom, but if you keep it yellow I'd prefer the 68 stripe.
The 68 SS stripes complement the 68 trim, while the 69 SS stripes would compete with the trim. On a car without the trim maybe the 69 stripes, but on your car the 68 stripes are the choice.

Snazzy car by the way. Really sharp. I'd like the have a 68 El Camino myself someday.

well if anything i owned, looked that good, i wouldn't touch it, but if you have to, the first pic looks great, is that some pinstripe i see down the side? if you striped the car, wouldn't that look a little odd? or are you painting over the pinstripe? again, i really like the way the rims look, even though it would be improper, i'd love to have those on my 64....

Purs, those do look nice - glad you like them!

I like the black on the bottom also. But, I think it makes the tires look big, like the body is sitting up higher - that could just be because it's photoshopped instead of a real pic, though. Maybe some lower profile tires would help with the look.

Thought of other colors, like a dark charcoal gray instead of black?

I think either stripe would look great as a complement to the black bottom.

Cool shoes! I like the black also. Where you been? Mark and Walter and everybody's been asking about you. Still working on the houses? Did you get the fuel line in? I went on vacation and forgot to bring the tubing bender by. Let me know if you still need it.

I agree with most people that the black on the bottom looks best, and to use the '68 stripes.

Later,

Thanks! Yes, still working on the houses. Have contracts on both but not through the inspections yet......

The fuel line is in, didn't need the bender, thanks anyway.

Next time it looks like good air, let me know. I'll follow you over there and we'll see if we can tear something up :D I want some 7.40's!!!!

I vote you leave it alone. No black.

What size wheels are those?
15 8's?
They look too big.
and what's the offset? The trim ring looks funky.

Thanks for your sharing your opinion. They are 15x8's front and back. The trim ring is what came with the wheels. I believe the offset is 4.5". Although I'd rather have 10's in the back and 7's up front, this is what came available and I'm quite happy with the result.

Personally I think the black on the bottom makes the car look "leaner" which is the look I prefer. To each his own, I guess. :)

Thanks for everyone's input, I've not decided on the stripe to use yet.... may even do the yenko thing.... I doubt it though....

My older two daughters like the black on the bottom. My four year old and I like the yellow. I guess our votes cancel each other out!
