: Reinforcing body mount holes in frame

I was thinking about adding a peice of 1/8 steel with a hole in the center over the body mount holes in my frame prior to re-assembly. Figure i could stiffent the car a little more while sticking with rubber bushings to reduce interior noise. Would the added height run me into problems?

Its also a convert chasis with a coupe body ;) , Im having the body mount holes re-welded (to get rid of 2 worn out -rotted out- ones) figured i might do some re-inforcing at the same time.

Thanx

I have seen "washers" of the correct size for the bushings. These are meant to be welded in to fix the rusted out mounts on the frame. I think one of the poular repo houses like Year One carries 'em.

i have done that. here are some pics and stuff on my web site.

the problemm with just adding the washers, is the added thickness could allow the bushing to become uncoupled with the other part of the bushing . possibly allowing the bushing to shift in the hole untill the steel sleve hits the inner diameter of the hole. i cut away enought of the frame so that the bushing sat flush and flat on each side of the washers.

Hmm, so added height isn't a problem i guess.

Im still a little confused with how the bushing sits in the whole so i wont do any reinforcing till i get a set of bushings/sleeves/bolts in my possesion.

i'm not sure if the height is a problem or not. i did all of the mounting locations wether it needed it or not just to keep them all the same. but i dont think it really matters.
when you get your bushings you will see that the top rubber or urethane piece has a 1/8 boss on it that sits down in the hole. if the bottom pies is not pulled tight up to it, there is a possability that the bossslides out of the hole, which would then allow the bushing to work its way off center untill the bushings inner sleeve hits the hole in the frame. if you look at it antd think about it for a while you will see what i mean. i am sure people have done it anyway and it probably is not a big deal. i just wanted the bushing to fit the way it was designed and be 100% locked in place on the frame. by the way i used polyurethane bushings.

I use a big washer and cut the frame so it will be flush. You wont get any frame flex there anyway.

I used urethane on my 69 conv. I can feel every gravel and crack in the road. I would use them for competition only, never on a driver.Just my opinion. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
