: OPG drop springs?
Hey guys,
Looking at OPG's 2" front drop springs while they're on sale. Anyone have problems/issues with these?
Thanks!
No has comments on these? I guess they must be pretty crappy?
rchevellea Jul 13th, 06, 2:35 AM rd,
I was going to order my springs from opg, then i found this website, here is a link to a project they did on an el ccamino, http://www.classicjunkyard.com/el2.htm, and also the link to the site for the company that they used for their springs, http://www.classicperform.com/chevelle.htm, i know these are only a 1 1/2 inch drop and your looking for a 2 inch drop, but when i put mine on i decided that they needed to be a little bit lower, i know I will probably get a lot a flack on this, but i cut about a complete coil out, and my car rides pretty smooth, and its low too, i drive it every day and it handles great and their springs are only 95.00. Like I said i was going to go through opg but these were a lot cheaper, and come to think of it I ordered my back springs as well from the with a 3 inch drop. My car is a '67 i know its the different body style but to me a low chevelle is a low chevelle. I hope this helps if you want to see a picture of my car, to try and get an idea, let me know, i will upload to my computer and put one on here. I hope this helped out a little bit. Good luck and let me know how it turns out, i would love to see a before and after picture.

Ryan,
Thanks for the info, definitely will lookinto their springs. If you can, I 'd like to see pics of your car, maybe before and after. I'm sure other guys would like to see it also.
Thanks

I have the 2" lowering springs from opgi on my car (front only), with a small block. Pics are in my sig. If you have low hanging headers, as I do, they will get dinged so you really have to watch where you drive. I am running Dyno-max full length headers, driver side is the main problem.
Rob
Rob,
Your first link in sig doesn't work. The last one with the before and after shots, I'm not sure if you have the drop springs on or not, although they do look lowered.
Yes, I have headers (flowtech) which hang kinda low (not sure of exact clearance). Hmmm, I guess I forgot to factor that in. How much clearance do you currently have? Any chance of posting a side view shot?
Thanks - rd

rd, the first link is after springs were installed. The second link is long before I restified the car. Third link is a front view. In the old pic the car always seemed too high in the front so it may be decieving of the amount of drop. I added the club feature car link for easier viewing. Front wheel/tire is 235/60/15's with 255/60/15's out back. I did add airbags to the rear springs to keep the rear up when traveling to out of town shows with a full trunk.
Dave Jul 14th, 06, 2:08 AM I used the Eibach 1 1/2" four spring kit, and am very happy with it. Just remember, it'll take them awhile to settle in. I thought I got ripped till I drove it for awhile, then I was very happy with them.
Rob,
Thanks for posting pics. How much clearance do your headers have?
deff65ss Jul 14th, 06, 6:05 PM I have the drop spindles and stock height springs. No issues here. I did however have drop spindles and drop springs and it was a bit too low.

rd,
my headers aren't bolted up right now, but will be tomorrow. I'll get a measurement and post it.
Rob
OK, so looks like I currently have about 5" ground clearance from header collectors. Maybe I should use the 1 1/2" springs from classic performance instead of the 2" OPG ones, which are cheaper anyway.
What kind of ground clearance should I shoot for to be safe? I know I won't be able to get the floor jack under, so I'll need to get a pair of ramps.
Any thoughts?
CHEVELLEnATL Jul 18th, 06, 9:54 AM ramps scare me... I had one collapse under the pressure of my car. Not a fun experience and thank god noone was under the car.. I'd reccomend gettin a low profile floor jack
rchevellea Jul 18th, 06, 6:29 PM What I usually do is get my little bottle jack and put it on the bolt that bolts the swaybar to the frame and jack the front end just enough to get the jack under it pretty safe that way, I dont really like ramps, I guess I just dont trust plastic holdin' my car up.
fenns70 Jul 18th, 06, 6:52 PM my '70 is lowered with eibach springs and i can't fit the jack under the crossmember either, so i do what "rchevellea" said, then that will give you enough height to slide your jack under the car,---using jack stands are your best bet.
17Again Jul 19th, 06, 3:21 AM I think you will be happier with the 1 1/2" springs. I haven't measured yet as I don't have the full weight of the car yet, hood is off radiator is empty.
I drive onto 2 24" long 2x12's which gives me enough clearance to get my floor jack under the crossmember.

A ramp collapsed!? I have never seen that but i guess anything is possible! Whenever i work on my dad's 3500 duramx diesel dually, i always park it on ramps and have never had problems. It was even parked on them for about a month and the ramps show no sign of it.
