I am converting a 6 cyl chevelle to a big block and need to know if I should change out the core support. The original has only 3 bolts in the rail across the top and others I have seen have 4 bolts (in V8 vehicles). Not to mention a larger opening for air flow to a larger radiator. Where can I order one ?
How much bigger is the opening supposed to be?
The good mark one I have seen looks like the one in my car(70) and I am pretty sure mine is for a Small Block. It only has the the 3 nut plates on the top. However the holes for the 4 bolt cover are there(with no nut plates). IMO if there is less than 2 inches in the opening it wouldn't matter. My car is getting a 540 this winter so hopefully I'm right. smile.gif
So unless your core support needs changing due to rust or damage, I say save your money and put it towards a better quality radiator. Most of the resto places carry the core support and its usually $120+. Good luck graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I wrote this in one of your other three topics dealing with core supports
You can make your own BIG BLOCK core support. What I did was take a big block support or even small block with air, locate excatly where the bolts are on the support. Take those measurements then place them on the 3 bolt support. Drilled 4 new holes. On the backside of holes welded small nuts to mimic the original.
For the bigger opening you can see where the bigger hole would be cut at. Look at the front of the support you can see a factory stamped lip. Cut on that lip now you have a bigger hole in the support.
Althou not 100% origianl I can see you arnt building a original car, me either so I frankly dont care...Eric

Sevt... 10-4 on the other three posts on the same subject. It makes me feel good to assist someone who needs help. It doesn't make me feel good when essentially the same question gets asked three different times. I'm done.
