: Rear trim on a 67 Malibu

I just got some trim pieces from Year One for my 67 Malibu. This includes the trunk lid trim, the upper tail trim, and lower tail trim. The upper tail trim is not a problem, but the trunk lid currently has no
screw holes (maybe it's not the original and came off a different model?) and the lower trim piece (the wide one with the black stripes) didn't come with any clips, and I don't see them in the Year One catalog. Does anyone know a source for the lower clips, and can anyone tell me where the screwholes are supposed to be in the back of the trunk lid? The trunk trim came with two threaded studs with nuts, and a handful of plastic clips that look like they're supposed to have screws put through them.

Thanks for any help.

The deck lid should have studs on it which the 2 mounting brackets go on with clips and then the deck lid molding snaps on,the 2 spring clip threaded studs go on the ends of the deck lid molding. The lower rear panel molding clips you may have to find used,I may have some used extras I'll check, if I do you can have 'em free, I have extra NOS moldings but I don't want to open them up until I use them. You can sill find nos upper & lower rear panel moldings and they come w/all hardware for about $75 a piece,ya not cheap but they will have the correct hardware.

Brett is correct, but I wanted to expand a bit.

There should be several studs/bosses on your trunk lip (don't remember how many, 6 maybe) in addition to one hole at each end of the lip. Originally there were "rails" that attached to the lip over top of the studs with little clips. As Brett said, the molding would snap onto these rails and the spring clips with mail threads were used in the holes on the ends of the lip.

Several years ago I purchased a repro lip molding. It came with several plastic clips. I haven't tried to install it yet, but it appears that these clips were intended to take the place of the original rails. The rails & clips are often rusted, as are the studs on the lip itself.

I don't see why either the new plastic clips, or original rails couldn't be mounted with screws if you were brave enough to drill several holes in a lip where the original studs are long gone.

hello, if your deck lid doesn't have provisions for the moulding, you may have a 66 deck lid. doug
