working on a 355 SB and since I have the engine out of the car, I figured I would try to fix a starter problem. Starter originally would do two things: whine when engaging and would occasionaly not engage the flywheel. I would shim it and it would be fine for a couple of days, but still clank and whine and then jump out and not engage. So I picked up a new starter and flywheel and mounted them. In order to get it somewhat aligned, it appears that I would need to shim it about 3/4 inch or more - which dosent seem right - even then it dosent seem to line up perfectly, The block is a pre 1986. Not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

355 Sb Would Need A 14'' Flywheel And A 3510 Starter Nose. Staggered Bolts,same Length.
