Do I need to have a return line to run a quadrajet in my 68 chevelle?

No, at least not with a mechanical fuel pump.

thanks, yes I am running a mechanical fuel pump. On the back of my qjet there looks like there is a return line boss, but I cannot tell if it is closed off or not. Do you think I need to plug that hole with something?

The fuel return line comes off of the fuel pump. The only boss that I know of on the Qjet is the PVC hookup or vacume lines.

Here is a couple of pics of what I am talking about. I have never run a qjet before so I really appreciate your help. Also if this is a vacuum port, what should it be connected to or do I need to cap it off. I have no smog issues, no power brakes, I think the the only vacuum I need if for the distributor.

I might be wrong but I believe that this carb is off of a car that was computer controlled and that is what the threaded hole is for. You need to check the part number and see what year it came off of.

Hopefully someone will chime in with more info. Do you have a picture not so close up? Put the part number on the tag forum and see what they say or do a search on the Rochester web site with your numbers.

here are some larger pictures.. If the carb is like you suggested; computer controlled, do you think I need to plug that hole with something?
P.S. The carb is a stage two build from the carb shop, so they knew all of my info before setting it up for me. Like it was going in a 68 chevelle, my motor, cam specs, and ect. I guess I could always call them this week and ask them.

That threaded hole on the back of the carb is the one you are asking about? That is a vacuum port for power brakes, plug it if you don't need it. Nice looking carb.

I agree with zeke67.
don't see any indication of it being computer controled.

Definately not computer controlled, so I will plug it. Thanks guys, I know some of my posts are redundant and what not, but this is really my first build, and I am just trying to learn as much as possible. I cannot tell you how many little things this forum has helped me out with. I will post a vid, when I get it fired up.

I know that the middle tube on the carb is for the pcv, and the one the left is for my dist, but I cannot think of any other vacuum sources for my application. No power brakes, no vacuum canister, ect, so do I need to just plug any other vacuum sources and fire it up?

Sorry, I have another concern, is it alright that I removed the filter that was in the fuel inlet of the carb, as long as I am running a fuel filter in between the outlet side of the pump and the carb? Or do I need to run both filters? Thanks again.

Yes, just put vacuum caps over the unused vacuum ports. Do this even if you can feel a vacuum presence at idle -- some of these may be ported vacuum.

If you run an inline filter, you can remove the filter in the carb base, But you may want to make sure it won't impact your warranty. If it where me, I'd run it anyway, it's a pretty good filter and has a bypass spring should it become plugged.
