I am getting read to repair the quarter panels on my '66 and clean up the trunk. Here are my questions:

Since I will be welding around the outer wheel houses and lower rear quarter with my mig, should I be concerned with the proximity to the gas tank? i.e.. should I drop it? Sounds AR but just checking.

Also, it looks like the previous owner stick welded the new trunk pans. I would like to clean the welds and then re-weld those areas that look like crap. Again should I worry about heat or sparks that close to the gas tank?

BTW it looks like the previous owner cleaned and painted the gas tank and there does not appear to be any leaks.

Thanks in advance!

Personally I would remove it.. Better safe than sorry... If you don't make sure your REAL careful with the welder.. I wouldn't want to read about you in this years "Darwin Awards" http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Definitely remove the tank!! And be sure to unhook the battery. The battery is not as big a concern on early model vehicles, but is a must on any late model vehicle with a computer.
