I've never had anything rechromed before and I just got a quote to rechrome 4 70 SS centers. The shop wants 45.00 each, a 180.00 seems a little high but I've got nothing to compare it with. Does this number sound right?

I was charged $40 each for a really crappy job on 4 bumper guards by a local bumper shop. Ask them if they give a satifaction guarantee.

If you're talking about '70 SS wheel centers, you can get very nice, and accurate (with correct recess) repops for around $100. Comes with center SS decals too.

Sounds about right to me. It's not cheap and if there are repos they will almost allways be cheaper than getting a piece rechromed. Sometimes it's worth getting an original piece rechromed however.

Thanks for the info, 2 of the centers are originals and I picked up 2 more, they are the 1/4 inch deep ones and I'm trying to keep as many original parts as I can.

The new Goodmark center caps no longer have the SS emblem in the middle. I was told the SS emblem was no longer available. Other than that, the Goodmark repops are very nice. I bought a set from Classic Muscle for $65 and that included the retainers and bolts that are too short to do the job. A quick run to the hardware store will solve that.

I have learned that there are actually some good quality repro parts available out there. If I can use a good quality repro im all over it compaired to the cost of replating a part at twice the cost. The repro wheels they make these days are actually quite nice and much more cost effective then having originals redone anyways.

One thing to cosider is your Broward County location. As you know chroming, or any plating is a dirty process utilizing multiple hazardous materials. Environmental issues in S. Fla. are more sensitive than other areas due to our water table. Plating also pollutes the air. Complying with environmental regulations down here is very costly for the platers and this cost is passed on to the consumer. One plater I dealt with had a $100.00 minimum on chroming. That $180.00 may unfortunately be a locally competitive price.
