My stock 350 with factory quadrajet smells rich most of the time. It also smells like gas when it's first shut off for several minutes.
It starts cold with one pump on the go pedal and idles choke within 30 seconds of starting (I removed the choke butterfly because it didn't seem to be opening all the way, but it didn't make any difference). After it's been driven and shut off for a 15-30 minutes or so, when you start it without touching the gas, it sounds flooded until it clears itself out. It also smokes a puff or two when this happens.
I pulled all the plugs after driving it while it was still hot. Every plug looked perfect except for #7. It was wet and smelled of gas but had no build up on it. Could this be because of the carb "perking" after its shut off and the gas running to the back of the manifold and into the cylinder? The #8 was dry and tan like the rest.
