Where can you buy the nuts for the bolts that connect the steer arm to the spindle? What should they torque to? I have the service manual for 1968 but that spec is not in there. Thanks.

Even though the pic is wrong, this is what you are looking for.
Just bought a set for the 71 looks great.
BTW you will need to order 2 "kits" as the one comes with 2 bolts enough to do one side.

My bolts are fine, the nuts just don't seem to lock as tight as they should anymore. Has anyone bought just the nuts anywhere? I would hate to spend 12 dollars, plus shipping, for 4 nuts. Thanks.

I used "lock" nuts from the hardware store. Not the cold rolled steel with nylon insert style. I got hardend nuts where the one end of the nut is kind of crimped down. You'll need a good old fashioned style hardware store with a big bolt selection.

Go to your closest John Deer or other tractor dealership and buy grade 8 locknuts from them as Zeke has described. I found that the local Deer dealership stocks a LOT of hardware but other dealers probably do too - I just have never checked.

Hey, that's a good idea! The Cat dealerships are well stocked too. A lot of the implement dealers and truck dealers are open long hours too. I had a buddy back in Illinois that always bought at the Cat dealer, they were open until midnight every night and he could what he needed during his late night wrench episodes.
