: Disk brakes wearing too much?

I just pulled the new front wheels from my 69 Chevelle with disk brakes and found a fair amount of brake dust on them after about 200 miles of mostly highway driving. The calipers were replaced (new) about 6 years ago, but probably don't have much more than 1500 miles on them since the car was laid up for a restoration most of that time. The pads are new and the rotors were cut. When I turn the rotors by hand, there seems to be more drag than I think there should be. Does it seem like an abnormally high amount of wear may be occuring? What should I check?
Thanks,
Rich

This may or may not be the case, but in my experience the brakes will drag quite a bit and you'll see quite a lot of dust before the pads and rotors break in. If you look at new parts, you'll find that the wear surfaces are a bit rough, so what you're seeing might be normal.

As long as the brakes are not running hot, I'd think that the excessive dust is caused by normal break-in.

Makes sense, I'll check to see if they get hot next time out.
