I've got a mild 350 w/headers and such but stock carb and intake! Anybody have any good intakes(for Vortec heads). Anyhoo the glide works fine but I really want to go 13's at least. My son wants it to do wheelies. So do I. I'm not worried about winning races, I just want to have fun. So can I keep the glide and make this thing pull the wheels???????

It's a '70 Chevelle two-door hardtop.

The common rules I've always went by:

If it's 2800 and under, go powerglide.
If it's over 2800, go 3-speed.

Put a 1.96 low in the Glide, lol. That will bring it to life. I just did a move to that from a 1.76 in a friend's late model Firebird with a 427" small block in it, along with a change to a more agressive 8" TCI converter than his ATI. Dropped him from 10.70's to 10.20's! As to the weight deal, there are a lot of variables. I've seen heavy cars run well with Glides, and seen light cars run well with 3-speeds. You need to look at the overall combo. In reality, I'd probably build a TH-350 for what you have going there. Dimensionally it's similar to the Glide and would not be hard to swap over to. But, if you keep the Glide the biggest thing is to get the proper converter in there. If you start to make some decent power, then add in a steel high gear clutch hub and aftermarket input shaft as well.

I've got a Turbo 350 with a 2500 stall convertor waiting in the garage. I was just curious.

my partner on a lot of car building over the years (also a member of this site) named jason snyder knows very well about this. he put together a very nice 64 nova a few years ago. it had a good 350hp small block roller motor in it. with a glide and like a 2300 stall. it ran good he liked it alot. one day we put a th-350 in it with about the same converter in it. d*mn the car came to life. he sold it for $8500 and been kick'n himself

The extra gear and lower gearing of the TH350 will make a night and day difference. Do it.

Then put in a slightly lower rear gear and smile.

I had a 350hp 327 combo in my car (67) with 3:73 gears... i had a glide with a 3000 stall and put in a 3sp TH350 with the same stall, the 3 speed 'felt' faster BUT 1/4 mile was the same (not verified at the track but by racing against the same car)... i thought the 3 speed would make a difference (especially in a heavy car 3500#)...but it didnt make any real improvements...

needless to say i still have the 3 speed, now with a 4000 converter, 4:56 gears and a different motor... i like the bottom gear...
