worked 4 hours over holiday trying to get front dash speaker out . Seems as dash was built around center A C duct with speaker in place...can't be so ! I can get the duct to slide side to side but cannot remove it or speaker or speaker retaining bracket . Looks as though defroster duct has to be removed next, which requires heater box removal, but just run out of time !
Any tricks on removal AND not tear something up that will be hard to replace ?

You can drop your dash in about 30 min's or less! Makes life a lot simpler when removing the speaker!

There is a bolt at each corner that goes straight up at the bottom of the dash next to the door.

Remove all the screws that you see that are under the dash pad, and follow around on each side with the screws ending aprox at the corners of your dash bezels on each side. There are 9 total! what you see that appears as welded to the cowl/door does not come off when removing dash.
Remove access plate under steering column. You will see a bracket that holds column in place, remove two nuts, this allows the bracket to come off and will make it possible to lower column down a bit to aid in dropping/removing dash.
On each corner undeneath, you will see two bolts on both sides. These are directly above the knobs that open your vents on each side. removing these will allow the dash to drop down.
If needed you can see the two screws that hold your heater controls in place. This is enough information along with your visuals while doing it to get your dash dropped down enough to remove your speaker.
Here is a link from the ACES artical on how to remove your dash, will tell you exactly how to do it.

THANKS, 10 min and its done. I had loosed the screws and decided it was just a trim strip and moved under dash to continue the task.Should have stayed with original move !I had owned a 66 El Camino.360hp,4sp. from 67 thru 75 and never had any dash work needed. Oh , to have that one back! But the SS coupe will scratch my itch now ! Thanks again for the helpful info.
