: New data mining - 1969 VIN location on block
DaleM Jul 5th, 06, 6:12 PM New item for data mining:
Appears that some 1969 engines were VIN derivative stamped on the engine pad and some on the oil filter pad. To see if this was a plant thing or an overall management thing, I'm compiling data and need the following info donated. Please, 1969 engine information only. (Yes, I'm retired and have entirely too much time on my hands.) :D
Would like the following:
1. Engine plant/date/suffix code (does not have to be a 396/402 engine).
2. If VIN derivative is visible, is it stamped on the engine pad by the engine plant data, or...
3. ...is the VIN derivative stamped by the oil filter?
4. Body assembly date shown on the Fisher Body plate.
Giving the complete VIN is not important (as some people don't like to do that) but the location, plant, engine and body dates are important.
Engine does NOT have to be original to the car, e.g., you have a 69 block in another year Chevelle. Naturally in this case, the body date is not relevant but the VIN derivative might be helpful in the final assembly timeframe.
You can either post here or email me directly at dale@chevellestuff.com.
Appreciate any/all input.
SS69Chevelle Jul 5th, 06, 7:05 PM Dale, good idea. I have one 69 motor: the following are the numbers on it. Block pad= T0122JA, date cast= A 7 9 (3955272), intake cast= A 21 9 (3931087), head cast A 20 9 (3931068), other head must have been changed cast= F 30 9 (3964290). Partial VIN located near oil filter= 19A322515. Know thats a bit more info but it shows the relation to casting and build time I think. Block= 7 Jan 69, heads= 20 Jan 69, intake= 21 Jan 69, engine assembled 22 Jan 69. Sorry don't have the body it belongs to but I'd say it was a Feb 69 (02A, B, or C) car. Anyone with info on the car that matches can contact me directly. Thanks Andy

Not original to car but a 69 motor
DougA Jul 5th, 06, 8:37 PM Dale,Did you see my last post in restoration corner reguarding the Framingham block?
DaleM Jul 5th, 06, 9:16 PM If you could get a specific date off the block (e.g., T0401JE)...you noted early April and 04D for the body.
Neuman Jul 5th, 06, 9:23 PM That posting by Dean is OBVIOUSLY fake. Look how many times it took him to get it right!! :D
Mine's close to the same. I'll post pics tomorrow.
elcamino Jul 6th, 06, 7:33 AM And that spot it not supposed to be machined but rough casting surface (if by the oil filter)..
NITRO Jul 6th, 06, 9:11 AM Dale, here is my 69 Wagon info:

Sure looks like someone did a lot of practicing, doesn't it?
I wonder what's up with all the extra "69's"
Neuman Jul 10th, 06, 10:00 PM OK Dale, after my whole date stamp fiasco, I finally have some numbers for you:
Engine Stamp: TO109JA
Date Cast: A 7 9
Partial VIN (by oil filter): 19k384641
Body assembly date: 01C
Plant: KAN
And, since I made fun of Dean, here's my VIN stamp:
Neuman Jul 10th, 06, 10:05 PM Dean,
Even with all your practice stamps, you still put the "1" upside down! That's just shoddy workmanship:waving:
Mr69 Jul 11th, 06, 3:31 AM I have a bone stock unmodified 1969 Chevelle Malibu L48 car.
I know the VIN is on the pad in front.
I can't tell you much else about it right now as the car is covered in parts.
I will have it uncovered in a month or so.
I also have a 272 1969 396 with JO code and it is stamped on the pad in front also.
I have pretty good access to it right now. Anything more you want to know about it?
Nate

1. Engine plant/date/suffix code e.g, T1025JO?
2. If VIN derivative is visible, is it stamped on the engine pad by the engine plant data, or...
3. ...is the VIN derivative stamped by the oil filter? Do not need complete VIN derivative as such but do need the plant and timeframe from item #1 to correleate timeframe and plant.
4. Body assembly date shown on the Fisher Body plate (only if engine is original to the car.)
