I own a 70 chevelle ss with a 454. 750 carb and a mild cam. the distributor is a dual point type. i was wondering if anyone else is using one of these and if i wanted to upgrade which one is best. the car is street driven only. thanks gary

I'd suggest upgrading to an electronic distributor. The dual point types where good back in the day, before timing retard boxes and electronics came on the scene. A of guys here run HEI's. I've got a Mallory Uniite, love it. There are also conversion kits that convert a stock (single point) distributor to electronic if you want to keep the period look.

I agree, go with a HEI..... you will get a hotter spark and you will notice the difference in the performance of your 454, the HEI will wake-up that badboy. I would suggestion a stock GM type, very dependable.
Good Luck!!
