If I remember correctly years ago when I had other chevelles they rode liek a tank, I have rebuilt the completely suspension all new Moog springs alll new steering and suspension parts coil over rear shocks and gas charged shocks in the front ( Monroe ) this thing rides like a wet sponge and handles like crap. any suggestions other than totally changing the suspension ?

does it have an anti-roll bar in the front? Some say you don't need one, but if you've got softer springs you might. Also, how much did you pay for the shocks? You pretty much get what you pay for with those, so if they are cheapies that might be a big part.

Perhaps Derek could give you some pointers

Cant remember how much the shocks cost I I dont think they were cheap but not top dollar either, I have always used the coil over shocks it has alway be a good set up for me, and if your mean a front sway bar ? yes I do its not heavy duty but there is one there.

I built a SS 454 STA WGN. Go around a bend and it would scrape the door handles. 1 1/4" Sway bar in the front, gas shocks---Rear sway bar,Delco Air shocks--Now it handles like a cup car. Nice ride no LEANING. This worked for me. Bob ACES 2825

What do you have for springs in front & rear? Sounds like soft springs with small sway-bar to me. To make it handle there are 2 ways to go, stiff springs / small sway-bar or soft springs / big sway-bar(s).

Is it just rebuilt, or what? Could you have a broken sway-bar end-link?

Front end is tight completely rebuilt a arm bushing all steering moog stock springs front and rear no rear sway bar but a small one up front I guess I need to enlarge in a larger one and install a rear one if they make that much differance, Thanks

Unless you want to change springs, sway-bars will be the easiest way to fix it.

Front sway bars can be used from 2nd Generation F-bodies (70-81 Camaro/Firebird) with 1-1/8" and 1-1/4" sizes available if you have a junk yard around with older stuff, or want to scour the swap-meets. You'll probably pay between $30 and $50 for either size, although I've found them for $5 at swap meets :) It sure beats ~$200 for an aftermarket one!

Either will be an improvement, but if you have a SB, I'd go with the 1.125" and if you have a BB, I'd start with a 1.25".

For the rear, look for a stock '69-72 F41 7/8" bar. They come up in the classifieds here occasionally, and last I checked (a couple years ago) they were still available from your local GM dealer for far less than aftermarket.

The front will require new bushings, and the rear will require some drilling on your rear control arms, and doing something to keep them from crushing when you tighten the bolts. You can box them, or just install a small piece of pipe that the bolts pass through.

More performance oriented swaybars are a good idea. Shocks are a huge parts of it though,it they`re Sensatracs or some thing like that they could be most of your problem. A set of Bilsteins seems expensive until you drive the car. ;)
Another little trick to firm up the front end soem and reduce the body roll is to swap your stock LCA bump stops with a set for a 2000 S-10 Extreme with the ZQ-8 suspension option. They about .75" taller that stock and they`re made of a neat new cellulose elastomer material that ads some progressive spring rate without feeling the "thump" you normally do with rubber bumpstops. They`re actually supposed to contact the frame lightly a good deal of the time. Because they rebound muuch slower than rubber they don`t add and rebound rate or bounce to the suspension either. A quick and easy bolt on mod for about $30pr. at any GM dealer. We`ve used them on a number of squishy A bodys with good results.
Last, what do you have your alignment specs set at? A good alignment with more performance oriented specs can do wonders for handling. Mark SC&C
