I have been going crazy trying to take off my console on my 68 chevelle. I am close to using the hammer method, but before I do something I will regret I am hoping you folks can help me with some instructions/ steps to taking the console off. Thanks for any help.

For an automatic:
1)Remove 4 screws from shifter indicator
2)Remove shifter indicator piece
3)Remove the 2 additional screws at the front of the metal top piece
4)Remove the top piece
5)In the opening created by removing the top piece, remove the 2 bolts that are located at the front of the opening
6)Remove the bolts that mount the console to the shifter...mine has 3, but holes for 4.
7)Remove the two screws that hold the rear floor light piece to the console
8)Remove the 2 screws that go through the floor of the storage compartment.
