Anyone purchased a repro console top plate lately? The chrome on the original one on my 70 4 speed has deteriorated and when I called to order a new one the sales rep at Year One told me there have been quality problems with the ones they have been selling. I appreciated the honesty and didn't order it. Am I better off having the original rechromed?

I heard the same thing from a different supplier, so I had mine rechromed, glad I did.

My wife and kids ordered me one for Christmas two years ago. It was crap. The paint had runs in it and the brushed aluminum was miscut big time and had gaps between it and the chrome. I sent it back with a letter asking for one that they would be proud to put in their own car. They refunded my money. I think you'll be better off doing your own.

Edit:

And it was from a different supplier than Year One.

Thanks for the feedback....I think I'll look for a good chrome plater.
