My Gen VI 454 is in a 72 velle. What starters are you 70-72 owners with a Gen VI using? This is for an automatic with headers.

I have the 454HO (Gen 6) and I was using the starter that I had on the 396. Then I got a used ZZ502 starter for 40.00 and it works like a champ.

Bottom line, you can use any starter that has the staggered bolt pattern.

I am running the GM high torque mini starter. It used to be P/N 12361146, but I don't know if it's been renumbered. This starter could be rotated to clear headers, and I'm glad it had this ability.
