Hello, I'm new to TC as a member but have been reading posts for some time. I give you guys credit for helping me decide to restore my 68 myself. Thanks for that.

After sanding the paint down to metal, I found a couple of older patches that were brazed in. A friend said "cut it out and weld in new patches, the filler won't stick to the brass!"

The patches seem solid and the brass is about a 1/4" wide line, flush with the sheet metal surface.

Will I need to remove the brass, or does anyone here have experience that can tell me otherwise?

AS long as there are no pin holes in the weld you will be okay. Back in the early 70's and 80's before mig welders, that was the best way to repair rust. The biggest mistake shops made was not sandblasting the welds afterwards. If there is any flux or smoke, plastic filler won't stick, but sandblasting removes all that. I have had cars last decades that were brazed and zero issues. Hope that helps.

Thanks Mike, I'll leave the repairs as they are.
