I have a question about the tail light housings on my 66 Chevelle. I posted a little while back about them not fitting. I was wondering if there is a way to weld cast pot metal to steel. I want to weld them in place instead of bolting them in. Cause you can still get to the bulbs to get them out. If the housings fit to start with I was going to use filler to smothe them in with the fender. But I can't find any other housings this is my only alternative.

Thanks, Christopher Smith

Chris,I don't understand what your trying to say here. You have 66 tail lite housings that don't fit on your 66? What's wrong with them? I am not really sure about welding pot to steel but I would say it can't be done.If you are looking for housings e-mail me and I will gave you a phone# where you can get them.

I would try a couple different ones and maybe do a little grinding[I had to slightly grind one of my '67 housings to fit good].
I would not weld them but work on getting them to fit, grinding, or try a couple different ones there pretty easy to come by for a '66.

The housings dont fit flush, on the out side edge it is a good 1/4 inch away wrom the car body. Both are like this. And I'm not sure if the housings are bent or the back quarters are off. See what I found with the car was that it looks like it has been wrecked or hit in the rear. Don't know if this has any thing to do with it or not.

I would say that the problem is not the extenions. There is a thin seal that gos in between, but there should be no gap as big as yours!
