I need a picture or two of correct placement of the GM sticker on a 1968 Chevelle driver's door.

Thanks

There isn't a correct placement, 'cause there isn't supposed to be one there. :) I thought I had a pic of Dave Dobb's original 68 door, but I can't find it, anyway, it didn't have the sticker.

Thanks Bill. I could have sworn the 68 had the dark blue sticker on the jamb or the door. Like the one that Year One sells. It appears the one from Ground Up is a 67 Emblem.

Just what were these things used on anyway? Everyone sells them, and we all agree that they did not belong on a Chevelle.

They are correct for 67 Chevelles at least - both driver and passenger door. Can't say about other years...

From photos of original cars, the sticker is just to the left and above the door latch.

BillLI didn't take a picture of his door either Bill. Hard to believe considering all the pics we took! But there wasn't a sticker, I remember that one for sure.

It's a good thing I think of these things. :p

The 'GM Mark of Excellence' door decal was used 1967 - 1969. I believe in 1967/68 they were turquoise, in 1969 they were blue. My '67 has the originals on both doors. I thought that they normally only went on the driver's door, but what do I know?

As far as them being used in 68/69, possibly it was a plant thing. I certainly remember them on new '69 Chevies!

My original '68 300 car had the turquoise colored GM stickers in both jambs...and no, I didn't take a picture! I was upset when I restored the car in Germany that after it's repaint I couldn't find any others to replace them.

OK, Lets review..... Some 68/69's got the door jam stickers, some didn't. So it's a definite maybe.

The guys who originally did my car both remember that it had oil change stickers on the door, but nothing else. I was bamboozled into buying & installing the blue sticker on the door. :clonk: It has been removed, thank heaven for 3M Adhesive cleaner! :)

I know aftermarket suppliers don't always delve into what is correct for particular cars but these have been on the market for quite a few years with 67-68 shown in green and 69 in blue.

I've seen several survivor 67s with the tags but never paid much attention to other years...did someone just make this stuff up years ago and the aftermarket suppliers have gone along for the ride?

I don't see anything in my 67 or 69 AIM, but I assume these would have been put on at Fisher Body and the final assembly line - hence no reference to it.

Bill, I wonder if sometime during routine maintenance and oil changes the oil change reminder sticker might not 'replaced' the GM sticker somewhere along the line. I remember 'back when' when we did oil changes for customers, we'd rip off almost anything on the door jab to get 'our' reminder to stick.

Dave Dobb said that the oil change sticker was the only one he ever saw on the door jamb. He seemed pretty sure.

Maybe a question for your original owner the next time you talk??

Already asked him in Nashville Mark. He couldn't remember seeing them. He did say he used to wax the door jambs, but couldn't remember waxing around the GM sickers.

When I worked at the Phillips 66 station in my youth, I would have been too lazy to take anything off of the door. I'd just stack the new sticker over the old one. We were required to put one in the door and one under the hood, either on the core support or the air cleaner.

Damnit you guys are killin me. I have heard of a local guy that has a survivor 68 I will stop by his shop and pick his brain a little. Maybe I should just cut the thing in half? Any takers for the other half?
