I am going to get my 64 Chevelle painted. I want it to be a deep,dark blue (navy blue, maybe). What would be the best blue to get it painted?

Please post some pictures if anyone has their automobiles painted a deep, dark, almost black, blue.

Indigo blue metallic- GM truck color- see it all the time on S-10's, full size P-U's, etc.
My '69 is painted that color-love it and it gets lots of positive comments. Ck. the "feature car" portion on this site Feb. '02 for a sample.

Seriously, I would check and see what factory shades of blue were offered in the 64 model year for Chevelles. I'm a big fan of factory colors. But hey, it's ultimately up to you. Just do a lot of research. Doesn't hurt to look at other makes of vehicles or other year Chevelles, BUT find as many 64 Chevelles , so you can see what that particular body style looks like.

Another good place to check out it your local automotive paint and supply store. A lot of them have HUGE books with paint chips from every factory hue for just about every make, model and year imaginable.

Look at my '69 Malibu in my sig.

It's '94-'96 Corvette "Dark Cloissonne Met. Poly." and looks great in any light. (looks purple at night)

What's the paint code for Danube Blue? I know it is an original color for a 65 Chevelle. I also think this is the color I saw in a movie once that had a 65 convertible Chevelle. (A movie with Kevin Bacon that was set in that time period.)
Thanks for all your help. Many of the colors look like the color I used to have this Chevelle, I had it painted in 1989 when I was still in my last years of being a teen, I am way beyond my teenage years now and would like it to be a little more of a "grown-up" color now. I kind of want it an "old lady" blue. If I can find the pictures of what it looked like in the early '90's I'll post them if someone could tell me how to insert a picture into this text.

check out Skip's car at the bottom of the feature cars page..... there's a few more 66-67s with M.B. the thing i love about that color is how it changes with the light because of the metallic in it.

Derek, do u have any more pictures of your malibu? also, can you tell me the paint codes for the paint you have on it and about how much it cost a gallon? it's a sharp looking car :cool: .

The orig dark blue in 64 was Daytona Blue, Paint code #916. Give the 916 to the paint store and they will match it.

Lita, I've also been looking at dark blue paints for my car lately. Dodge has some nice dark blues : Patriot Blue Pearl Coat, Midnight Blue Pearl, Deep Sapphire Pearl. I've also seen a few Honda blues that I like: Eternal Blue Pearl, Midnight, and Sapphire Blue Pearl. I might go with the Sapphire but haven't decided yet. Good luck!
