Hi,
I own a 71 El Camino that I am interested in outfitting with a 72 Malibu dash. I know not everything on Chevelles/Caminos are interchangeable, will the dash even fit? Also, it is a floor shift dash, while my current dash is a column shift. What kind of headaches am I going to run into if I try this? Thanks for any replies.

Yes the dashes will swap. But I'm not clear on what you are trying to accomplish http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif ??? Do you have any dash installed now? Do you want to swap from a sweep style to SS style dash? Are going to use a floor shifter?
If you are going from sweep to SS, there are some wiring changes to be made. Are both dashes for A/C cars?

Do this only if you are prepared to gain the seat belt warning light that came in '72. Just kidding, of course. The seat belt warning light is nearly invisible. that would be a major change between the two.

Rick,
yes, I am going for the SS style instead of the sweep. I currently have a sweep style dash with a column shift, and I am switching to a malibu/SS style round gauges that was origianlly built for a floor shift. Is this going to work? How much monkey-rigging will I have to do if I want the shift indicator to work?

The swap will work. Lots of folks at Team Chevelle have done it. I am not familiar with the details, other than it will be a bit of work and may be frustrating at times.
the floor shift SS style dash will not have a gear indicator in it. If you add a console, it will have a gear indicator on it. You may want to get a "back drive kit" from GroundUp or another supplier. It will allow the backup lights & neutral safety switch to work.
You might want to do a search (top of page) for detailed info on the swap.
