Hi- I'm in the process of getting a '69 Malibu rag top back on the road, 69k miles, stock 307/ Powerglide on the tree, fac. A/C. I'm going to change it over to 700R4 based on my past expierience with them in my van and pick up, plus the availability of 700's. I found a 1990 doner that I plan on having freshened prior to installation, with the possibility of sticking a tbi or mpfi 350 in front of it in the future. I've tried to glean over as many articles on this swap as I could, and while some have been helpful, others contradictory. So, my questions are:
1)Are the 700's already internally wired to lock up the converter at a certain pressure, that would occur at a certain throttle setting/load, or is there an internal modification, or external wiring harness, or both, needed? I'm pretty clear on the switch to unlock it when you hit the brakes, but I'm getting mixed vibes about the lock up itself, nad I don't wat to do the 'toggle switch in the dash' thing.
2) I was on a real good site that told all the mods to do, servo, plate thickness, extra plates, what brand band & clutches, ect., but didn't bookmark it. If it was here, I apologize, but is there anyone out there who knows this stuff, and is there a kit or supplier that has all the parts under one roof?
3) I'd like to keep the column shift, does anyone know of a replacement indicator? I've seen them for 350's/400's, but not 200/700's
4) Will the 700's converter bolt up to the P-slides flex plate?
I've got a good handle on the other things, like the crossmember, TV cable hook up, shift linkage, & driveshaft , I guess the lock up circuit is the most confusing one, but any advice or tips will be appreciated. Thanks!-Mike
