Hi guys, I am figuring that I need to replace body mounts on my 69 Malibu and I want some other opinions. If I (200lbs) and my 110lb son are in the car and I hit some fairly big road bumps, the driveshaft yoke @ the trans hits the floor with a thud. A freak thing happened last night, my wife and daughter joind my son and I for a cruise night (yikes) and with the 4 of us in the car the yoke was rubbing under fairly hard braking conditions. She and my 19 year old daughter daughter probably added another 230-240 lbs along with my son and I so I'm figuring the original body mounts are shot and dropping the body down??? Any ideas?? The guy that I bought the car from has a new trans mount in the car too, may be the wrong one?? HELP, thanks.

I've never seen body mount be that bad.....Sure something else is not rubbing somewhere?

randy, i have had that happen in my 69 too..check the trans mount first..take a measurement on what is currently in there. i found that there is quite a range of heights out there, and finally found one from pep boys (NPD also carried the same one) that was shorter and solved my problem.

Do a search for my posts in this forum..pretty sure I listed the part # for the one I used.

I have the same issue.
I went from a th350 to a 700r and apparently with the x-member moved back it has changed the angle of the trans and I think the new mounts have also lifted it some.

Alone or with one other rider there is no rub, but put anyone in the back seat and it hits and rubs on even the smallest bumps.

I will be changing the mounts and id needed pull the x-member and modify it to set a little lower.

I had the rub too, when I was using a poly trans mount. The stock one is a little shorter, and that cured it for me.
