Well I had my 489 idling in the driveway today to see if my electric fan would turn on at the 195 degree temp it is supposed to. I have the temp sender for the fan in the drivers side front of the intake manifold and I have the water temp sender in the drivers side back of the intake manifold. I left the car idle for at least 10 minutes and then the electric fan turned on-I felt that was about right. However, my temp guage in the car was only reading 150-160 degrees. Is there a problem with the water temp guage? Should I move it in the front of the manifold next to the fan temp sender? I thought it could be the wrong head gaskets, but I checked several sources and am pretty sure I have the right ones. It is a Gen V1 block with Brodix race rite heads. Any thoughts?

the water in the rear of the heads will be cooler because it has not pulled the heat out of the combustion chambers on the way to the front yet. Put your sending unit in the front with the fan unit.

Thanks Idunno. I will try that later and see if that helps.
