Hey guys, my friend is doing a frame-off on a '66 Convertible chevelle. The frame is in bad shape and he'd like to get a new one - does he need to use a convertible frame, or is the 66 HT frame (or el camino) frame a bolt-for-bolt replacement? Thanks...

Kinzli,

If you search this site you will find many many posts. I see you have been a member for a while...
You will need to use a convertable or elcamino frame because of the boxing (inner brace) between the front and rear wheels. I have a 66 elky frame but not close enough to do you any good. You can also use a 67 frame but not sure if the upper rear spring seats are the same. Anyone????

Hey Mark, yeah, I searched but didn't find much, guess I had the wrong terms. I can build a motor but when it comes to frame/body stuff I haven't a clue smile.gif

My friend is looking for a spare frame if anyone knows where one is (preferably in CA).

Thanks...

The Elcamino frame is longer I believe, the only choice is the converible.

As I remember the boxing plates from the convertible frame can be removed and welded in the non-convert frame though.

elcamino frame is longer behind rear wheels to rear body mount location it can be shortened to fit the convertible

U can take the box section off a elcamino and put it on a hard top frame... Or you can box a hard top frame with steel plate or shorten a elcamino frame. Many choices, just depends on whats available to you

Whats wrong with your frame? Wrecked or rust? If the box section is good you can use that.
