Does anyone make a stock style 396 valve cover set that will clear the taller roller rockers?

Thanks,
Mike

I started a thread on this not too long ago and actually discovered on my own that OPG offered a set of "Cheater" valve covers.
When I called them, they told me they were depleting there stock and wont be offering them any longer..needless to say, I snatched up a pair.

Sorry to say, they no longer offer them, but since they are not carrying them anymore, you should be able to extract the name of the manufacturer from them..speak to their superiors and appeal to them as a "dedicated customer".
The part number is CH-26963.

A couple of things I should point out though. I've done some reading on this and found that repro valve covers 'tend' to have a problem with their breather baffles dropping off the valve cover (into the rocker area).
I looked at the "cheaters" I purchased and not only is the "chrome" really bad (with blemishes I might add), the breather baffles were only spot welded on in a couple of places. They are not even flush against the underside of the valve covers (originals are).
For me, this is not a problem since I was going to have the wire loom tabs removed and the valve covers reworked and rechromed anyway.

Incidentally, these valve covers look just like the originals without drippers, and are 'almost' 1/4" taller on the side closest to the intake manifold and about 1/8" taller along the exhaust manifold side.

Thank You for the heads-up on the quality issue. It looks like I would only need a spacer. I remember on -- I think it was -- Two Guys Garage where they made spacers for a Corvette project. That would be nice but huge $$$.

Summit has spacers but they are 1.15 inches. more than i need. If I get spacers are the repo stock height covers any better that tall ones?

A 1.15" spacer is a little much and a discernable difference..it has to look a little funny.
I think the spacer itself will also be visible looking into the engine bay.
Some guys just use an extra thick gasket and get away with this, but you will need valvecovers without drippers none-the-less.

The quality of these foreign repros are about the same..I suspect.
If you are set on purchasing a set, I would first check with GM parts..they must offer them. If not, look up Trans-Dapt, as they are based in southern california.

I've purchased a ton of replacement parts, and have found that any foreign body, interior, and accessory type parts 'tend' to be inferior to U.S. 'made'..even electrical.

The good ol' U.S. of A.

Use the extra thick racing gaskets that are available from many sources. :D

Thanks the thick gaskets sound like a good idea. Now I just have to find chrome covers that are OK. It looks like the repro ones are a POS. I hate it when you have nothing or little between POS and NOS

There are some very good quality "repo " covers , not cheap but very good chrome is better than original ..check out some quality suppliers who understand the diff .... Paragon Corvette has them for sure maybe even Hinshaws ..dbl gasket works fine with most roller rockers but some serious hardcore ones will not clear ....... I have used the spacers from B&B under stock covers on a Corvette.if you have alum heads just glass blast the spacers looks like part of head ........ getting longer correct marking valve cover bolts .now thats another story
