Primer it, and Paint it!

Auto body paint holds up fine on engines (from what I've heard...)

The best thing to do is start fresh with a bare clean block. Apply 1 coat of epoxy primer then topcoat with a single stage urethane or baseclear.
It WILL outlast any spray bomb engine paint period!!!

Still beautiful after 7 years, Acryllic Enamel over Epoxy over bare/hot tanked engine.

I like the chevy orange paint on the engine block. I like the stock look though. What do you think about using POR15 paint on the block? Comes in teh chevy orange. Last a lot longer than reg paint I would think.

i didnt have a gun or compressor when i built my motor, so it got the spray bomb, after a couple days of scrubbing, grinding and smoothing it got a couple good coats of, i believe it was, krylon ford (i know, i know) red engine enamel and im still surprised at how well its held up, in fact, i just had the engine out to fix a gash in the oil pan and clean up and smooth my firewall, and i decided the block didnt need anything but a good cleaning ....ive heard (much like this thread) mixed results when using automotive body paint, but most of the poor results ive heard of had to do with using clearcoat ...good luck, and let us know what you finally do and how it works for you
