I have a set of power windows, and the drivers door has always been slow, and needs help to go completely up...

I want to replace the motor, but not sure what I need...

This is a "home-made" reproduction I bought years ago, and I recall the guy saying I could use later model (1980's?) motors, but I see they are different in catalogues... I tried to contact the guy, but I think he may be out of business... They use a modified "factory" harness...

Any way to identify what I have (connector differences, etc)?

These "catalogs" also indicate the "new" motors do not have the gears included, so I will need to switch mine...

I have heard this is dangerous?

Is this true? Am I getting this confused with something else?

Any tips, suggestions, references???

Thanks...

I would test the motor first. Poor power, ground or high resistance in the switch can make the motor slow. Hook up directly to a battery, if the window moves quickly, it a wiring problem, if still slow, then replace the motor.
