How do I tell what motor came with my cars? I just bought 3 66's VIN #'s138176B111064, 138176K200153, and 136176K101938. How do I know which horsepower 396 came with the SS's or what motor came in the Malibu? Is there any way of knowing? Also, When you see #'s matching, are people simply matching a 1966' block with the 1966 car, or is it actually some number sequence type of thing? I am a novice, but love the cars.
Thanks,
Jason

# matching means that the vin's on the drivetrain (eng.trans, rear) match the cars actual vin # and are origonal to the car.

The 396/325 was the base V8 engine in the 138xx cars and a 283/195 was the base V8 in the Malibu. No way of knowing what 'actual' engine came in any car without some type of paperwork or identifying the engine suffix number on the front engine pad IF the engine was original to the car.
