I have a 69 that i will be change to a automatic floor shift. I heard there is a trick so you can leave the neutral safety switch on the column. Is this right?

I know on my car it is on the floor and easy to access. so why do you need to leave it on the colum?

When I did the swap to buckets and console in my 71 I just kept the linkage from the transmission to the column hooked up. All that is different is the little bracket that attached to the side of the transmision. The bracket for a floor shift car has arm on it that the cable from the horseshoe shifter attaches to. So when you pull the horseshoe shifter the column still rotates and engages the neutral/back up swith just as it always did.

Hope this helps.

I am following this with interest, I just picked up a bucket/console combe. and was lucky enough to score a tilt wheel/no shifter.

When I look at the Assy manual - there is a rod from the steering column to the floor shift.. any ideas? - do I neeed to score one of these, or can I fab something up, or is any of it necessary?
