: What E.t. Gain From Slicks????

I have a very powerful car, but no traction. I have 60' a 1.67 on a couple occassions off the trans brake at real low throttle but I need more traction.

I currently am using 315-35-17" BFG dragradials, I am switching to the new Hoosier Drag Radials, I hear they have more bite.

My real question is... What kind of E.T. gain can I expect just from swapping to a 10" slick without changing anything else?? The car will go about 10.00 now at 145-150 mph. I have over 800 RWHP, 1000 hp at the crank.

My buddies keep trying to get me to try slicks. What do you think?

Any ideas??

I'd go with a real slick or at least M/T ET street radials
60ft should be in the 1.30s if not better for 145-150 (low 9s)
youre lookin at .3-.4 tenths improvement in 60ft, which should be around .5-.6 tenths in the 1/4

If you can really get it to hook, 145 will put you in the low 9's

A lot will depend on how you launch it with the turbo's. Slicks will help, maybe a bunch, but I doubt you will get even close to 100% traction. Launch technique and suspension will play a huge role, even with slicks.

this isn`t a equal comparison but with my old chevelle I ran a best of 13.55 on regular bfg`s and then 13.30`s with McCreary G60`s and then 13.03 with full 26x8 slicks. This was a 327/th350 car with a 3.08 peg leg that eventually ran low 12`s with a gear change and same slicks.

Scotty … don’t think I’ve read much on the rest of your drivetrain, but that turbo setup has be the prettiest I’ve seen. Anyhow, quick comment is that you might want to take it easy on the slicks. That lack of traction might be saving you a lot of drivetrain parts!

I have a pretty stout drivetrain.
I run a Hipster built t400 with brake. It is the same trans they used in all the 8 second super street cars before they went glide.
The Driveshaft is a Dennys Aluminum HD, They said it would handle my 1000 hp on slicks and t-brake.
The rear is a 12 bolt with 33 spline axles, weld on ends, billet caps, t/A cover, .25 wall chromoly welded tubes, and an eaton 33 spline posi unit.

I have never run slicks, but I was curious if I did, what the E.T. gain could possibly be. I am currently making close to 900 ftlb of torque. I can smoke the drag radials at any speed, even from a 100 mph roll.... I am talking black marks untill I let off the gas! Would a slick allow me to hook that much better! That would be incredible!

You should be able to hook from a 50-60 roll on slicks.
But if you stick slicks on it, you can say goodbye to that posi unit.
I'd upgrade to a spool and 35 spline or bigger axles...
Heck I'd just go with a 9" and a Detroit locker if I had 1000hp.

Sorry, I'm not really qualified to answer your question ... but here's a shot.

Slicks will definitely make the car hook better than any type of drag radial. Without a full drag-only suspension, you won't be running as quick as your MPH say the car is capable.

So, if you're at 10.0x's now, and the MPH say you're capable of 9.0x's ... I would guess something like 9.4x's?? Which also brings you into a new set of safety requirements.

I'd be careful of that Eaton Posi ... and get into a 35spline locker, or full size spool. You're running faster than I've ever seen one last ... again probably attributed to a lack of full traction:-)

Thanks, Neal
