ohhawk Jan 19th, 03, 7:44 PM I don't have the name of the supplier of the adhesive that is sent with the pad when you order but having gone through a similar episode a few months back Original Parts Group gave me the name/phone of the supplier, I called them and they sent me the glue. It cost somewhere around $10 if I remember correctly.
P.S. Follow the directions closely
Bill T SS70 Jan 20th, 03, 11:51 AM I have the 800 # somewhere. As I recall it cost about $20. But what I recommend, and what other here on the forum have done, is use the BLACK, 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive.
Is your rubber pad flat or is it pre-formed to fit the bumper??? I installed the flat pad on my new bumper and after about 6 or so months it would come loose. I ordered a new tube of the "special glue", cleaned off all of the old glue and did it again. 6 months later is came loose again. After that I ordered the pre-formed pad from our sponsor, Ground Up, installed it using the 3M adhesive and it has stayed just fine now for several years.

dale3 Jan 20th, 03, 3:54 PM I used 3M windshield urethane on my flat pad about 3 years ago and I can't find a loose spot on it yet. Sticking Very well.

70L34 Jan 20th, 03, 4:03 PM Concur on the Super W-strip adhesive. Lay the SS pad over the bumper, clamp in place, and trace the outline of the pad onto the bumper with a permanent marker. Now you know where to scuff the bumper to promote glue adhesion. I scuffed mine with a Scotchbrite 3" disc mounted on a drill, just enough until the chrome is cloudy-looking. Follow 3M's directions for the glue and CLAMP the pad into place using pieces of 2X2 wood and wood clamps--the more the better (the pad will set flatter). I left the clamps on for two days and the pad looks beautiful and has stuck great. BTW this was installed about 1.5 years ago.

dale3 Jan 20th, 03, 4:23 PM I also used the scuff method w/clamping. I don't think you could pull it off with a bull dozer. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
i think it is the flat pad. i will try the 3m black super weather stip adhesive and clamps.i guess i'll order 2 tubes running out in the middle of that would not be a good thing.thanks a lot guys.

1970SS396&1967 Jan 21st, 03, 6:30 PM You dont need 2 tubes.I used about half of one.Put it on about a month ago after light sanding the area and so far so good.

plain 69 Jan 21st, 03, 9:48 PM Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone will bring that rubber pad off if you have to take it loose. That what we used at McCauley Propellers to take the de-ice boots off propeller blades when they were defective. 7T I would use as many clamps as you can get your hands on. Borrow some if you have to. Before you put the pad on I would get some solvent that does not leave any residue and clean the back side of the pad and the bumper after the scuffing.
Just think when your flying in a Turbo-prop the only thing that holds the rubber de-ice boots on the propeller blade is good ole 3M Yellow glue. It sounds like the Super W glue is working good for others so that might be the ticket.
