: How to adjust the 1st to 2nd shift on a TH400?

So now that my motor problems are more or less resolved, I'm getting to the trans. Got a turbo 400, with a Transgo shift kit, and just finished up tuning on the governor re-calibration kit. Problem is that it still likes to shift 1st to 2nd way early, the gov recal kit delayed it quite a bit, but still too early for my liking. Is there a way to adjust the first/second shift.

While we're on the subject, the trans shifts just fine automatically, but it's like second doesn't even exist to the staple shifter. Any comment's on that?

Need to take a bit off the primary weights in the governor. Or work on the 1-2 shift valve. I'd opt for the governor myself.

Could you define that a little more? By primary, are you talking about the inner, outer wieghts, or springs? I've gone from stock to pretty light as it is. Thank's for the help.

The outer weights have an effect on the 1-2 shift, the inner effect the 2-3 shift.

So, are we saying that I need to lighten them up by drilling them, or can you buy lighter one's? Thank's for the help.

Yes you can drill the weights but I would recommend first trying lighter springs in the governor before working on the weights.

I've already gone to lighter inner wieghts, and lighter springs. It lengthened the overall shifting of the trans, but 1st to 2nd is still to early.

You could shim the 1-2 shift spring in the v.b. That will raise only the 1-2 shift.

Why do you want to make the 1-2 shift later ?

I have a shift kit in mine and am really happy that it shifts to 2nd real quick on the street. It hits second gear before you are half way across the intersection and will still spin no problem.

At the track I hold it in first to 5500.
