My body guy has suggested using U-tech paint on my 71'. His work is excellent so I do not doubt his suggestion is sound, I have just never heard of U-Tech. Does anyone have experience or opinions?
Thanks,

Well, our shop typically uses all PPG products. I just finished my car trailer project and had it blasted in preparation for paint.
I talked to the boss man and he felt the materials to use PPG would have cost me at least $500. He had used U-Tech a couple times here recently with good results.
We used their (U-Tech) epoxy primer with a urethane paint (single stage gloss black). It turned out better than I expected.
Since this trailer will sit outside in the elements all the time, this will be a good test to see how well it holds up to the elements. These materials cost less, but I still had $350 at shop cost in product put on the trailer.
I too like you had never really heard of U-Tech.

U-Tech is a great product and I have sprayed gallons of the stuff. The company is owned by akzo coatings who makes Sikkens paint.I have used their 200 urethane,3.8 urethane, polybase and their clearcoats. They have broken the rule when it comes to you get what you pay for, with u-tech you get alot more.I did an old 63plymouth race car with their 200 single stage 3 years ago and it still looks like it just rolled out of the booth.I wouldn't be afraid to use it on my car.

Its owned by Akzo Nobel. They have a website but no mention of U-tech on it.It used to be owned by Mac coatings until early this year, maybe thats why.I have used it a lot and its great.Their basecoat is unbeleivable. Its the secret weapon in my shop.I get a lot of people wanting affordable overall jobs, thats not possible using PPG or Dupont.A gallon of Dupont chromabase will run about $260 for some colors, add a gallon of clear for $120 plus sealers and prime, tape, paper ect. Your at $500-$600 before you touch the car. I have been using this on overalls for a few years with great success. A gallon of U-tech polybase basecoat is $60-$120 A GALLON! mixed 4:1:1 so it covers fantastic, two coats in most cases. Then i follw that with Nason clear, thats about $80 a gallon.I have used U-tech clears, there great two,but can be a little harder to buff than the nason. I also use the U-tech 2k prime. Thats a huge savings over the big guys.If i need a color match for a repair on a vehicle i use Dupont chromabase,The reason Dupont is $40 to $60 a quart is your paying for the colormatch(and the racecar)But for an overall job it doesn't matter so i use U-tech.I also use U-tech epoxy prime, about $50 a gallon plus the activator, and its tough as nails. IF you find a dealer that sells Sikkens or Leasonal, they will probably carry U-tech.
