I just got back from getting new tires on the wifes 2002 Venture. Probably just coincidental, but now the air bag indicator lamp stays on :( . I checked the obvious things like fuses, as many sensors as I could, two on the core support and two under each front seats. I tried disconnecting the battery for a while to try and clear any codes, but it continues to stay on. Any idea what else I can check or try to replace, before being at he mercy of my local Chevy dealer? It has 54,000 and has never had a problem till now.
Thanks!

You cannot clear SRS codes by disconnecting the battery. It must be done with a scan tool.

Will it be safe to work on the system by disconnecting the battery and reseating some of the plugs?

yes it will be fine to disconnect battery for at least 15 min., un plug and check the seat belt buckle connectors, if the connectors are the problem the light will go out after key up flashing

Well, I disconnected the battery and unplugged and reseated all the air bag sensors I could find, which were, 3 under drivers side front seat, 2 under passenger side seat and 2 in the engine compartment under the hood. Unless anyone else has an idea, looks like a trip to my friendly Chevy dealer.
(I'd rather have all my teeth pulled :D )

Unless you want to drive to Fort Wayne and I will scan it. Can all of Detroits dealers be that bad? If it isn't under warranty, you can go to any GM dealer.
You have to have the code to know what is wrong. I wonder if AutoZone can scan SIR systems? Get the code and I'll try to help you out.

I finally got the code from a local garage, he said it was one of the front sensors in the engine compartment. Can anyone give me a part number?
