Hi,

Does anyone know if you can successfully retrofit the wing vent from a 1968 door onto a 1969 door (and the associated glass)?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dale

Things to consider:
The window regulator changed to a different type of mechanism in 69, so I would think you would need 68 window regulators. Beyond it being "the same, but different", to where maybe some of the existing holes line up with 68 hardware, theres a good chance that nothing will line up.

I'm not sure about the outer door skin being any different ( I think they're the same), but the inside ones sure are. You would have to make sure that the area where the vent goes will accept it ( the gap where the window comes up might get wider in that area, it's been awhile) , and that any place that a 68's window tracks, regulators, and vent assemble has available metal areas to be mounted to, plus I think the crank area for the vent is formed with recesses and the like, not just a smooth area with holes in it.
The door panel design for a 69 may look awkward with a vent handle sticking out of it. I believe the 69 post cars (which had vents)used a different pattern than the non post cars, and I think they also used the 68's regulator, although I'm not sure on that.
I think you would also have to use 68 weather stripping on the body.
If I was determined to do it, I think I would just opt for finding a pair of 68 doors.
I don't have my 68 fisher body repair book to look at a picture of the door, but I will look for it and reply again, hopefully with a scan.

Thanks for the reply. I probably have more than a couple of years before it becomes something I need to address.
