My bumper don't sit level in the back. This makes my exhaust tips looks like one is higher than the other. Doesn't seem to be any adjustment. Any tips?

Are you dealing with a straight bumper? Or maby it was hit in the back at one time and they didnt get it pulled right. Best I can remember my 69 was a direct bolt up with no shims. I guess you could try to shim it, but you might throw the aliment off somewere else buy doing it. I would say put it on a level surface and take a good look and measure the hight of the bumper and the tips from the ground. And the body it self. If the gap under the tail lights is right then move the tips. Sounds like something you will have to play with for the best apperance.

Bumpers have been replaced, not sure if they were straight or not. There is a bigger gap under one light than the other. It doesn't look like any adjustment can be made(?)

If it stays crooked, I'll have to decide whether or not to raise the one tailpipe to be closer to the bumper. Then the tips won't be level, but the'll be even with the bumper.

I think to get the bumper even you would need to shim between the upper brackets and body,or slot the brackets where they bolt to the bumper to even it out.

you can adjust them...afterall, they got missadjusted didnt they? if the bumper is straight (you can tell by using a string line and/or straight edge and eyeball) its probably a bracket thats bent or moved (there is room in the round holes for movement and some ive found are elongated, or you can elongate them yourself) my first recommendation is to soak all bolts at least overnight in wd-40 or whatever, i personally love this teflon stuff called tri-flow, then loosen them all up and see if you cant wrestle it where you want it at that point, (think jack/jacks and wood blocks here) if not id remove the bumper and check the brackets (level and straitedge again) if one or more is bad, then you have a new set of options (replace, repair, elongate holes) i would think theyre good enuff that you can adjust or at worst, elongate holes to get you there, worst case scenario is that it was hit and the frame ends were tweaked (you can check that the same way) or, if you get to the point where you have the bumper off, put the car on a level surface and step back and see whats not right, if the frame ends are at different heights and you dont want to spend the money frame alighnment would cost, i would bolt whatever side is good together and c-clamp the bumper/bracket to the frame where you want it and if you can't enlarge the holes, just drill a couple new ones,...this is alot more than i usually write, but, its only because i feel your pain, in my opinion a crooked bumper is the worse looking thing in the world, nothing says "wreck" louder than a drooping bumper (short of actual wreckage, that is) and...can literally be seen from a mile away.. and it should be ez'ly remedied, probably just needs a little adjusting,

I agree, just shim the rear bumper brackets where needed, and you'll be fine.

Just trying to help, the rear bumper does not bolt to the frame it bolts to the body.

Yes, it does, but the brackets bolt to the body, and they can be shimmed.

If you look in the assy. manual is showes a washer/shim on the left side between the bracket and the body.
I dont remember what page it's on though?
Hope this helps?

EXACTLY, these cars have a ton of shims in them.

I dont think shims are the answer to his problem if I understand him right. Sence he has a large gap on one side if he shims the other side to match he will have a large gap all the way accross. He may need to modify the bracket on the side that has the large gap to close it up some. I think the gap is only suposed the be about a 1/4 inch I think. I will have to look at mine to be sure. It will look funny if he shims it up and ends up even and ends up with a large gap accross it.

admittedly, i have a 70 el camino, but im still trying to find where the bumper bolts to the body, and since i have both off right now, its very confusing... and now that i've looked again, im still at a loss, and, now i wonder how could a shim between the bracket and bumper or between the bracket and frame do anything but move the bumper down or out and left or right?
