I have a 69 Chevelle and will be getting the top replaced next week. I have never had it out in the rain and rarely use more than a light mist to wash it. Last week, I got caught in a heavy rain and noticed that trunk had quite a bit of water in it. The water is seeping down between the top and the rear trunk body panel. If I go into the trunk and look up I can see what appears to be a channel and the top is sandwiched between the channel and the body. That is where the water is coming from. When I take the top to the trim shop next week, I want to make sure that part gets cared for. I would like to be able to talk a little more intelligently when I get to the trim shop. Has anyone had this problem and if you have, what was the fix.

That channel is supposed to divert the water to the weep holes in the body for drainage.
Is it possible that there is too much selvage (extra top material) blocking it from draining properly?
There should also be very thin rubber square spacers (roughly 1/32 thick) between the tack strip and the body at the bolt holes to form a small gap for proper drainage into the channel.
I used pieces of an old inner tube to replace the missing spacers. If those aren't in place, the water will go wherever it pleases. Just a thought.

Funny thing is that when I look up from the trunk, the top material appears to be wedged between the channel and the body,which would mean the water is hitting the channel at all, but seeping between the channel and the body. Unfortunately, without taking everything apart, I can't see the cause. I guess I wait until I get it to the top shop on Tuesday. Thanks for the suggestions.

At best, they seem to divert about half the water. I've looked at mine many times and it seems to be properly installed. I always get water in the trunk. Just gotta keep some towels handy.
