: Colors without stripes...?
'70(OO[==ss==]OO)chevelle Mar 22nd, 02, 2:18 AM It seems everyone with the cowl hood has the racing stripes. How many have just solid color or other paint schemes with a cowl hood? What colors do you think would look "off" without stripes, or on a chevelle period? Day-glo green is obvious. What about like all red? Would it look unfinished without the stripes?
RADAIR1 Mar 22nd, 02, 8:48 AM I'm painting flames on mine. Too many running around here with stripes and I'm not going with everything original anyhow.
Pearlwhite with yellow to ogange flames outlined in purple is one thought so far.
Don_Lightfoot Mar 22nd, 02, 10:05 AM My personal opinion is the darker colors look OK without the stripes, while the lighter colors just seem to need them.
BTW - welcome to the board although we don't know where you are from. Also, although your handle is long, it is http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif how you have integrated the entire front grill appearance into it http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

70mousejob Mar 22nd, 02, 11:05 AM I personally like the cars with some sort of trim color, even as small as pinstriping. Our chevelles are big, and my belief is that it looks better broken up, otherwise it's just too much of one color. I also must agree with Don, I think you take the record for the longest name, but it is way cool....especially because it's a 70. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Dwight_69SS Mar 23rd, 02, 7:50 PM I believe you couldn't get the cowl without the stripes, that why you see so many.
70Elky396 Mar 23rd, 02, 8:17 PM I seriously considered not putting stripes back on my hood because it turned out so nice, but I'm glad that I did. It really looked like something was missing. The stripes added the finishing touch.
I agree with Don, I think the darker colors would look ok without stripes.
The stripes could be deleted on a cowl induction hood.

chevss70 Mar 24th, 02, 2:55 AM I say go with the stripes, they just make the car look meaner. I think it gives the hood some bite, and definitely more depth.
Mine is viper blue with white and it looks tough

You could get the SS without stripes. Several were produced that way.

Dwight_69SS Mar 24th, 02, 11:31 AM Sorry Jody I jumped the gun. I was wrong. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/redface.gif

plain 69 Mar 24th, 02, 11:20 PM Dwight you are partially right. There were not many dealers out there that would delete those stripes except for a persistant customer. When most people buy a car they are told what they can get with a car and what they can't have with certain options and people just let it go at that.
I would venture to say when you bought a 70 Chevelle with Cowl Induction the dealer said you get the stripes automatically end of question. Then there was that favorite customer or an angry customer that pushed the limits and got one with no stripes. I like them all with no stripes.
Has anyone ran into this buying a new car? Say your wanting to buy a 1LE Camaro and the dealer says I never heard of that. I bet there are others.
