Johnny O Jun 21st, 06, 10:04 PM I was looking at one of these at a show this past weekend. I remember seeing the 'Firedome' logo stamped into the valve covers (must have been a higer priced option!) Cool car, it's different for sure.
Olle Jun 21st, 06, 10:12 PM Those cars look great, a really good example of -50's styling at it's best!
A guy in my hometown had one of those many years ago, and for some reason it always stood out in the crowd. Didn't matter if it was parked next to a -59 Caddy or a -58 Olds, it always drew more attention than any other car.
Would love to have one, but I bet that getting parts will be slightly more difficult than picking up the phone and call Year One like you can do with a Chevelle.
Are you thinking about buying it?

I am. I've been looking around for another car the last year or so (keeping the Chevelle of course). I've always liked 50s cars and also cars that you don't see every day. Plus the wife likes 50s cars too (she hates 60s cars) so it would be fun to have something she enjoys too. This would certainly fit the bill of "unique". I would imagine a lot of Chrysler parts would interchange.

I didn't know "wife", "likes", and "cars" could go in the same sentence.;)
Cool car, by the way.
Enganeer Jun 21st, 06, 11:09 PM There is a Firedome minus the hemi in Craigslist up here. I just saw, I don't know anything about it through.

Olle Jun 21st, 06, 11:14 PM Had a great opportunity to buy a -60 Adventurer about 10 years ago. It was 99% restored (looked like a very professional job), red with black top and all that was left to do was some minor final assembly like trim, bumpers and interior. The guy needed to sell, and was asking $6,000. Sometimes, I just want to kick myself.
Anyway, here's a pic of one of my dream cars:

haughty Jun 22nd, 06, 12:38 AM ahhh christine
those kinda cars just get my blood to pumping... Something about a car with a huge amountof chrome and windows...
mr 4 speed Jun 22nd, 06, 9:56 AM Looks like a 354 Hemi ??
Cam Jun 22nd, 06, 10:08 AM A guy here in Scarborough has a beautifully restored '56 Desoto Adventurer convertible that is a '56 Indy Pace Car. It is really nice, with the Hemi, real wire wheels and gold anodized trim.
bisjoe Jun 22nd, 06, 10:53 AM That one has the 331 Hemi, 180 HP, came with a two barrel. My brother had one. One morning he came home with the passenger side perfectly flat. He had been drunk and hit the wall of an underpass on the way home.
BillsCamino Jun 22nd, 06, 11:22 AM My grandfather drove a mid '50s DeSoto (black/red) when I was just a toddler. One of my earliest recollection of riding in an automobile. :)
I remember once Gramps had gotten stopped for speeding. I started crying because I thought he was going to jail. They tell me the cop let him off with a warning because I wouldn't shut up. ;)
Should have got some ice cream out of that deal...
DFER Jun 22nd, 06, 11:29 AM Andy:
How complete of a car are you looking to buy and are you wanting a Chrysler product? The reason I ask is that I know of a late 40's - early 50's Chevy down in my area for sale. I'm not much up telling the difference in the model from those years but from the road it looks very nice. I believe it is all original from outward appearance. It is sitting beside a garage with a for sale sign. I believe it is a four door but not positive.
Appears it needs some TLC but looks to be all there with no dents or outrageous rust. If I were into classic older cars and inclined to update the running gear, it would make a fantastic cruiser.
Let me know if interested and I can try and get more info. It is located in Coldwater, MS just down interstate 55 from Memphis. Not trying to hijack the thread or sell anything as I have no interest in the car other than to see someone get it and make it a nice ride.

Thanks for the heads up. I'd actaully want something in reasonably good shape already - maybe needing paint and an interior to be a good weekend show cruiser. I already have a major project car at home now. Not sure if I could get away with another one :)

pdq67 Jun 22nd, 06, 8:17 PM The older kid that helped me install the '51 Stude V-8 and tranny in my '52 Willis Areo Eagle H/T back about '65 or so(??) in highschool had a '57 DeSoto 4-dr. that had the hemi and was either dark gray or black and pink!!
It had such a long radio antenna on it that up around 130 or so mph, it would bend back and rat-ta-tat on top of the roof like he'd dropped a rod!!
Scared the sh-t outta all of us when we firstb heard it!!
Boy, the old sucker would haul the mail!!
