Hi all

I'm new to the Chevelle forum and purchased my first one yesterday. I've a few of the decode pages and there are still a few numbers I can't decifer and need some help.

The VIN Number is: 135697K178340
The ID Plate shows:

04B 4934
67-13669 KAN 7911
728-A Y-Y
2M

So far, I've figured out the following

04B - April, 2nd Week
4934 - ???
67-13669 - 1967 4 dr sedan, 6 pass
KAN - Kansas (Actually Leed's MO, based on VIN)
7911 - Unit Sequence
728-A - Med Blue Ronicina Cloth/Imatation Leather (but I can't find out what the A means, I assume it's "Bench Seat")
Y-Y - Yellow/Yellow
2M - ???

So, I'm wondering what the 4934, the A in 728-A, and the 2M stand for.

ALso, anyone going to Carlisle?

TIA
Michael

A = Bench Seat

2 = Option Grp # 2 and within that Grp. M = Powerglide Trans.

4934 is just an internal tracking number.. it tells you absolutely nothing about your car.

YY = Butternut Yellow.

One more quick question. I'm confused as to the VIN vs. the Data Plate. The VIN decodes to an 8 cylinder but the data tag decodes to a 6 cylinder. Or am I wrong with my decoding?

The third digit of the VIN is what you go by, even number = V8, odd number= 6 cylinder.

Hey, that may be cool. I'm still checking things out but maybe that old beatup 6 banger that's in it might just be the original.

Thanks and I'm continuing to check on more details.

The VIN decodes to a 6 cyl as indicated by the 13569 (odd number). The Fisher Body plate (aka, trim tag/cowl tag/etc) has nothing to do with being a V8 or L6 - Fisher Body didn't care. I have numerous examples of even numbered 'Style' on body plates with 6 cyl engine and odd 3rd digit VIN. To confuse things even more, occasionally you would find a body plate with an odd-numbered Style number. More often than not, these were Fremont, CA.-built cars but have been found for other plants as well.
