rocks66ss Jun 21st, 04, 7:12 PM Try as you may, but I don't think you can get God to paint your car ;)
Rocky
He is probably the only one that would get it done under the cost estimate and when he promised.
Buzzbomb Jun 21st, 04, 10:21 PM There is/was? a place in Colorado Springs that did practically NOTHING but classic car restoration. They also did paint on classics, etc. and actually had a rotisserie in the shop to boot. Im not sure if the place is still there, but it was called American Classic(s?) Restorations. I actually had some insurance work done on my truck there (odd, because thats not what they do usually- it was because of the appraiser), and they did a great job on what they did, eventhough my truck is not a classic truck. They even let me use their shop floor for FREE in order for me to save money on THEIR labor (pulling stuff off, masking, etc; saved their time for higher dollar stuff too)..
They had a JET BLACK (perfect)'59 Impala, '65(? somewhere around there, heh its a Ford) Shelby Mustang, a 1970 Carousel Red GTO Judge, and a 1966 Riviera...etc. The paint on that Riviera was second to none. But like I said, not sure if the shop is still there. The owners name was John. I know the general vicinity of the place if youre interested, I can give you directions. Its worth it to see if he's still in business, which Id bet he is- their work was TOP NOTCH.
The only reason I "question" it, is he is NOT in the phone book (never was), relies on word of mouth, and Im not there anymore to drop by the place...
claaster Jun 21st, 04, 11:23 PM Thanks BuzzBomb - If you could provide some directions That would be great. I will also check the web to see if I can possibly find this shop. My insurance should cover unless this cost is truly crazy. It sounds like he does great work and would be great for my car. Thanks for the help as the other 2 post were just in it fun. which is fine but you actually knew what I wanted - thanks steve. You can email me directly if that would help - stevenmclay@msn.com

Buzzbomb Jun 21st, 04, 11:42 PM Steve,
Like I said...Im NOT sure if he is still there; its been awhile since I moved and since I had my truck there. However, like I said- its worth teh trip to check if youre in the Springs sometime during the week. BUT if he is still there though, I can't think of anybody who I would rather paint or do bodywork on a classic car in the Colorado SPrings area- NOBODY- PERIOD. He is REALLY good and doesnt make it a habit of holding your car hostage. He probably WONT be on the internet, and I know he probably isnt in the phone book. People were shipping cars to him from all over the United States (like that Shelby), and he had an ALBUM of finished cars. All the cars were
As for directions, I'll email them (the best I can remember!) to you.
rococsc Jun 22nd, 04, 10:40 PM I am from Colorado Springs and I think I know of the place. If it is where I think it is, it's on Chelton Loop. I will check it out tomorrow on my way home from work and respond accordingly.

Yea, you know where its at; the road in to Chelton Loop is across for WalMart on PLatte, I think. Like I have said, Im not sure if the business is still there, but if they are, I wouldnt hesitate in the least to take a classic car there- even one worth hundreds of thousands of dollars (ie. Like that Shelby that was in there years ago) for A) a Full restoration or B) Paint and Body work.
As I emailed the thread poster, the only way I can think they would be out of business is if the owner retired or just got sick of it. I doubt he was sick of it though- he was self taught and started painting hot rods and such as young guy.
MileHiSS Jun 23rd, 04, 3:20 PM Come North to Elizabeth, Colorado and call E Street Rod and Custom. Ask for Tom or Mark. 303 646-4462
They are the best. Right now they are doing frame offs on 56 Chevy and 67 SS convertible.
Tell them Dave sent you.
rococsc Jun 23rd, 04, 11:07 PM Yes, American Classics is still in business. I went over there today and talked to the owner, John Bennett. They had three Corvettes, a Stang, a Cuda, a Ferrari, old Merc and a '56 Chevy there. John also indicated he has another shop where they do the extream body work. Anyway, here is the info:
3415 Chelton Loop Unit F, CS, CO 80909. Phone numbers are: (719) 572-7900 and (719) 475-1477.

Dean Jun 23rd, 04, 11:28 PM My Best friend, Danny Baker has a little body shop called Danny's Auto Body at 3429 North Prospect in Colorado Springs.
Been doing it for 47 years and you couldn't find a more honest guy than Danny.

What is extream body work, BTW? Just curious.
rococsc Jun 24th, 04, 10:31 PM Buzzbomb: The extream body work would include panel replacements and the major repair work (and maybe those other kinds of cars). The main shop is being used for final prep, painting and finish detailing. The work that I saw was second to none!!!! You were also right on as to the location of the shop.

Rick Hmmmmm...Im not surprised he's branching out. He didnt used to like to do panel replacement, I think. The only reason I wondered if he was still in business is I figured maybe he just got burned out with it. The shop was BUSY and when you do that quality of work, well...
Im glad to hear that the place is still in business. The work IS second to none; and they treat you pretty darned good to boot. When I had my truck in there (A 1980 Datsun truck, if you can believe that! How it wound up at that shop, Ill never know  !!), they had quite a few high dollar cars- they had a Gullwing Benz, a Ferrari, as well as 'Vettes out of the wazoo- including 427/450 (L89, I think?) Stingrays- they also had a Super Nice BLACK '67 El Camino in there too.
Anybody in that area, if you need paint/body work and want to get the full value of what you pay for- you owe it yourself to take it in there for an estimate. Thats Just IMHO, but I have yet to see a better paint job- and this was over 10 years ago since my truck was there.
