: replacing split bench with non-split bench 1966...
allengator Jun 18th, 06, 5:50 PM I really want to ditch the split bench in my 66 convert with one that isnt split... I hardly ever have back seat passengers and I want to put a middle seat belt in so my best girl can sit right next to me....
Is a 66 el camino bench split...? would it bolt in??
Other suggestions????
BillsCamino Jun 18th, 06, 6:07 PM Do you really want to do this??
If so, a wagon front bench will work.
allengator Jun 18th, 06, 6:24 PM Will a wagon seat fold forward?
I still want it to fold... just with a one piece back? doesnt the El Camino fold forward?
elcamino66 Jun 18th, 06, 7:58 PM The elcamino is split front seat like the malibu. 4 door and wagon are not split and do not fold up. You may change the hardware on the out side of the split to the nonsplit and make what you want. Just a guess???
allengator Jun 19th, 06, 9:15 AM :( Like so many things I want to do, looks like there is no easy answer!
Olle Jun 19th, 06, 5:15 PM What kind of seat belts do you want to install, and why is it not possible to do it with a split bench? Do you want to use a 3-point belt with the shoulder strap right across the back seat? If not, a lap belt would be your only option. I have a split bench with a factory center lap belt in my -69, so that can definitely be done.
allengator Jun 19th, 06, 5:16 PM No.. the problem isnt really the seat belt... could do that now...
The problem is she doesnt like to lean back against the seam of the seat backs!
Olle Jun 19th, 06, 5:47 PM Get her a damn pillow then! ;)
Andy69 Jun 19th, 06, 8:47 PM of all the things my wife complains about, I have to say that that is NOT one of them
allengator Jun 20th, 06, 9:33 AM Now if this was just ANY woman, I'd agree with fellers about the pillow and such....
But let me tell you about my PLG (Pretty Little Girlfriend)....
She LOVES the Malibu, always wants to RIDE in the Malibu... NEVER asks to DRIVE the Malibu... Whenever it needs something if I'm short on cash she volunteers to help.... During the year it took me to build my work shop, (aka the GREEN BARN) she never once asked me to mow the lawn, or anything else that would take time away from the project.... She loves car shows...
AND she oooh's and aaahhh's appropriately at ever rusty part I drag home from the latest swap meet....!
This woman deserves the best seat possible...!
Olle Jun 20th, 06, 10:22 AM Alright, make it a nice pillow then. :D Seriously, there are thin, T-shaped pillows that are made to cover seams like that. Can't remember where I saw them, but it might be an option.
1966_L78 Jun 20th, 06, 11:58 AM Maybe an aftermarket seat ( some company named "Glide" comes to mind)...
Maybe a pickup truck seat (maybe even a newer model with nice clothe upholstery)... The ones I recall often do have the entire back flip forward...
Bill Rose Jun 20th, 06, 12:08 PM The problem is she doesnt like to lean back against the seam of the seat backs!
I'd dump her like a load of bad asphalt!!
Bill Rose Jun 20th, 06, 12:13 PM double
Andy69 Jun 20th, 06, 12:34 PM Alright, make it a nice pillow then. :D
